Yesterday whilst driving along, I saw a MMM MG heading towards me in the opposite direction (which it would be!)I managed to record the registration number with a view to looking up the owner on the MMM register and hopefully making contact as the sighting was only a mile from my home.Unfortunately it`s not on the register ( or at least I could`nt find it )and that got me thinking about how many MMM MGs are about where the owners dont want their cars to be on record. Maybe they are members of another MG owners club and if so is there any tie up with the MMM Register? If anybody knows what MG 3871 is I`d be interested to know.

Neither does this number come up on the DVLA website so either it was an untaxed vehicle or you misread the number plate. Interesting!MG 3848 lives near you.Perhaps this was the car? Maybe Robin Registrar knows more? Alan G |

MG 3871 is not shown on DVLA records (well, not as an MG)
MG 3781 is K0426 but is shown as unlicensed on DVLA records.
MG 3718 is PA1652 and is shown as currently licensed on DVLA records.
You don't have to be a member of the MG Car Club to have your Triple-M car recorded on the Triple-M Register.

And oddly enough, I happened to spot in my copy of the Register for 2010 that reg. no. MG 3717 is claimed by both PA1902 and PB0465!
Best wishes Dick |

Robin Registrar is currently away from the register records for a while. Will look up when I get back.

Dick,
I have a copy of the register from 2007 and that also lists both numbers as yours does. I guess nobody has noticed the error which should be corrected before the next copy.

MG 3718 was out and about on 13/06/11 in the South Warwickshire area; it was being driven by a friend of mine.
MG 3717 is PB0465. It is shown in DVLA records as first registered on 18/11/35 and of 1039cc capacity - currently unlicensed.

I began to doubt myself about the registration number but then I know from my own experience that the DVLA can be, not exactly wrong, but fooled. So I ran another check on that registration, but not using the drop down menue for "vehical make". I put MGMAGNA as well as the reg. number. RESULT: a 1932 1479cc red licenced MG! I had discovered this some time ago when I did a similar exercise on my own car, MG2866, which came up as unknown. However the log book shows the make as being a "MGMAGNA" (all one word) SO, MG3871 does exist! Any ideas as to what?

On the site i have access to (info supplied by the DVLA) MG3871 comes up with very little info but shows the car as the previous reply as a red MG Magna 1932 1479cc but with a chassis number of F0989. As with a lot of older vehicles and imports the info available is quite scarce on the various sites.

The same occurs with APP 186, PA 0603, which draws a blank as an MG, but is recorded as an 'MGPA' of 885cc.
Perhaps this quirk of the DVLA system is widespread amongst MGs and might be the same for other pre-war cars with initials rather than a maker's name. |

Hi all: MG3717 was ORIGINALLY a four seat PA: I have seen a picture of the car in a prewar magazine, and duly listed in in my "sig Numbers" listing. I do not think the car was rebuilt as a PB, but it could have been. The problem with the MG numbers was that they were chopped and changed a bit by University Motors, the Kitson Trust listings are those which were the last listed cars with the number, and so is not completely reliable. The fact that MG 3717 is now with PA1902 sort of supports what I said at the start... incidentally, if the Richard Gourd is the same one as I knew back in the sixties, then a student at the Agricultural College in Warwickshire, then the car is definitely a four seater, as listed in the 2010 Register! However, Mr Gourd is now in New Zealand, and not all that easy to check up upon. All the best, Mike
