The K3 number 79 - The name I remember as the owner and driver was Kramer. I think this meeting was Silverstone 1964 as I remember well seeing all these cars together, especially the blue Beer J3. A 'very young' version of myself is to be seen in the background on one of the photos.

What a wonderful selection of cars from the Beer collection, would'nt it be lovely to see some of them out again.
K3013 is now MG-K3 and belongs to Gergard Maier.
Is'nt that the Hawke J2 with the starter handle hanging out of the apron?

Yes it is - looking slightly knock-kneed, must be those chunky wheels (which ended up on Mike As' NO). This photo is captioned from MGCC Silverstone 1967, so that's my guess for the event & date:
I would have been a toddler with an old box-brownie getting in everybody's way taking fuzzy photos! Paddocks were way better back then - total freedom. Those days are gone forever, Goodwood doesn't even come close I'm afraid.

Here is another of my brother Peter from that meeting. Could have been the Mary Harris Trophy which he won around this time. The car chasing him is Tony Miles in his(Le Mans PB?)

The first two pictures are of K3013 (before Gerhard Maier turned it back into a proper K3) at a time when it was owned by John Kramer. In those days, competitors in the MMM races at Silverstone frequently turned up with the cars in road trim - no cissy things like trailers then. I remember on one occasion driving up the A413 somewhere north of Aylesbury and being overtaken by John in AML 103 doing every bit of 80 mph, and the car contained at least two very pretty girls in addition to John who was driving.

I have checked the 65 programme. All the car numbers tie in with that years' MGCC Silverstone entry list.
71 - Malcolm Beer - NA0519 79 - John Cramer (with a "C" in the prog) K3013 80 - Geoff Coles 81 - Syd Beer QA0258 82 - Bruce Beer J3751 83 - Don Pitt/Mike Allison (co-driven in different races) K3021 84 - Mike Hawke J2396
In the 5 lap MMM handicap Stuart Milton (M Type) held on to win from the J3 & 2 K3s at an average speed of 50.1mph, phew!
To miss-key K3021 previously as K3023 I plead finger trouble - just too much of a senior moment to id it as EX135!

Note: Confusion in my dim brain as J2396 also carried the No 84 at MGCC Silverstone in 1967. Also, the photos of Peter's PA & J2396 wearing No 87 are actually from the 1966 MGCC meeting. |

What a pleasant surprise to find in this topic snap-shots of K3013, which date from a time before my first attendance at MG Car Club Silverstone in 1968.
In those years 1963 - 1964 John Cramer (his ancestors in Switzerland spelled Kramer), advanced K3013 mechanically to peak performance, and several times I heard the slogan since, that "it ran like sh1t from a shovel" !
I must admit that the body of the car at that time looked a bit "unhandsome", but it was the 5th body on the car since 1933, and John had added a old diesel tank from a lorry to replace the pointed tail.
The original first slab-tank, 2-seat body was already replaced for Donkin by Wilkie Wilkinson after only half a year, and later it even was equipped for a while with the split lengthwise and widened body of Harvey-Nobles QA0251.
So I hope it was excusable, that nearly 30 years ago I went "back to basics", by re-attaching the Ulster slab-tank 2-seat body. Gerhard
