Reluctantly, I have decided that it is time to part with my beloved PA Airline to facilitate the purchase of a larger classic more suited to my ageing and increasingly less agile frame. One of the 47 MG P Type Airline coupes built, about 15 of which are known to survive, three roadworthy in the UK. All matching numbers car, possibly the most original surviving roadworthy P Type Airline, Apart from safety additions, it is now largely as it left Abingdon in 1934, including colour. Good history file including the ‘Continuation’ buff log book issued by Surrey CC in 1947, photos of the restoration, invoices, original manual and parts list, articles about the car in magazines, etc, copies of factory file and Heritage Certificate from MGCC. I bought it in 2019, prior to which it had been in father and son family ownership since 1962. Used as a runabout until the mid-1970s, the father started a sympathetic restoration, completed to roadworthy condition by his son in 2011, although still lacking some original equipment. They retained as much of the original car as possible, repairing rather than replacing parts. The front cross member behind the dash still carries the original body number stamping. The restoration included the engine, which was re-bored to +0.030 and had a new crankshaft. The ash frame and body were repaired as necessary and the whole repainted in colours as close to the original as possible. The interior was re-trimmed with new leather to the seats and door cards and new carpet and headlining. I completed the restoration to original specification in 2019/20, following which it has been improved and maintained regardless of cost. 5 new Blockley tyres fitted in 2020, a stainless exhaust in 2021 and a new battery early 2024. It has been through an annual MOT test since 2019, even though exempt. The current certificate runs until May 2025. Although not quite ‘concours’, the car is in very good condition, with some patina commensurate with its regular use. The car has covered about 3500 miles in my ownership, including several round trips of over 100 miles to Brooklands, where it won Car of the Show at the MGCC SE Centre MG100SE in 2024. It also won the best pre-war MG at the MG100 event at Beaulieu in September 2023. There is a video of the car on Brooklands TV channel on YouTube, filmed in 2022 - www.youtube.com/watch?v=45gvAAYSjUE&list=PL3KUPRH-MxkLQ--bWnUpYRU02UMj4fPPa&index=28 (copy and paste into your browser). More details and photos on request. I really want 65,000 GBP for the car. However, I am planning to buy another car of similar age with the proceeds, so I will consider all serious offers, acceptance of which will depend on being able to negotiate a corresponding price for the replacement car. Preferred initial contact by email or by phone +44 (0)7717 765001).
