It is easy to forget just what a formidable force in motor sport MG had become during the inter war years. In 1935, for example, one year after this N-Type NA was first registered, only Bugatti won more events at Brooklands than MG. Amongst the best known competition cars produced by the marque were the seven N-Types, based on standard NA chassis and becoming known as the NE, built specifically to dominate in events such as the TT in Ireland and the Welsh Rally, a task they accomplished with almost embarrassing ease. Three of these cars were run by the Works supported Musketeer team and it is with these in mind that this 1934 NA (0757) has enjoyed what can only be described as a no expense spared rebuild to create a car which recreates and embodies the spirit of this never to be repeated time. Built to the very highest standards, this NA gained VSCC paperwork in 2017 and has been used sparingly since completion. The new body was built by Steven Gilbert in Weybridge and appropriately finished in the Works racing colours of cream and brown. The coachwork and paintwork remain flawless. The engine was rebuilt in Germany by Otto Geppert. The work was carried out around a new block and features a billet crank and Cosworth pistons. The supercharger application was entrusted to Garage Deusch in Seelbach. Transmission is of the preferred pre-selector type and the rear axle is to K3 specification, whilst braking is courtesy a new set of Alfin Typecast aluminium drums. The car is fitted with all rally equipment, including Brantz trip meter, and dual timers. Fire extinguisher. The interior is trimmed in chocolate brown leather and weather equipment consists of a mohair hood , a specially made and quickly fitted storm cover and a rear section tonneau, also in mohair, to cover the small luggage area behind the seats.
