My J2 under restoration is fitted with a CJR3 which I think is a T series fitting? I need a CJF1 or 2 and I understand these are difficult to obtain....what are the chances or do I hear hollow laughter? Any information/suggestions gratefully received, thanks,S

I'm staggered nobody has ever re-manufactured this sought after item

The thing with the CJF1 and CJF2's is that ... it depends on how much you are prepared to pay for one ... because they are out there!

My best information is the CJR3 with high low charge rate coil wires, came out, although opinions vary, with the last of the PBs/NBs, and continued through the early T series as noted by Barry Walker TA/early TB. The P/N type units were brown, others including CJF1 or 2 were black. Suspect there are units out there for purchase or trade, good luck. I have just traded one of my spare brown CJR2s with a lucky fellow forumer. These are rare enough, too. Let me know if your CJR3 is brown I may be interested, my very late PB probably used one as noted. I will keep an eye out in NZ for CJF1/2s. As Barry Walker notes in his old parts book even back then, the CJF1/2 for D/J/F/L/K is one of the rarest MG spares. Otherwise agree, a repro is due, any takers? Regards, Donald |

I have a small 12V Lucas cut out marked " Model Type CF " it is 2" X 2.5" with steel covers over cut out and fuse box. 1 fuse and 4 contacts. Might do ? Not quite a CJF1/2 for which Barry Walker wanted £135 in 1991 !! |

The CJR2 I bought in 1991 was about the same price, and the excellent reconditioned CJR2 bought some 3 years ago same source was about 3 x that. Never seen either unit come up on eBay over the last year though. Donald |

One 'get me out of jail' card is to use a CJF3 and convert to electronic action (talk to peter at Dynamo Regulators), and then buy a CJF2 cover from Vintage Car Parts.

Ian, does the CJF3 look the same externally (as a CJF2)? Dimensions etc

In my experience the tops are interchangeable, the only difference is the CFJ marking
