Having seen the exploits of Guy Martin on two wheels in a recent TV programme (world's largest wall of death etc) it triggered a distant memory, which if I correctly recall came to me from a rag man, which may perhaps resonate with the owners of our cars.

Evidently in the late 20s and 30s there was a chap known by the monicker 'Mr Bike' who experimented with motor cycles - apparently not without personal risk - with the aim of improving their mechanical performance. Convinced that his skills could find an outlet in developing 4 wheeled transport, he set to and made many significant developments of the power plants and chassis of run of the mill passenger cars before turning his attention, with the onset of WW2, to military vehicles.

Very little is recorded of his life and times, probably because he would have been overshadowed by some of the 'greats' of the period, but I wonder whether anyone else can add substance to this shadowy figure?

Dick,

I think that this guy's initials were C.K.
I seem to remember reading a couple of books about him.
Actually he lived his youth in my hometown, living around the corner
on Shaw Road.

Dick,

Before the day runs out:

I have checked my records of "Mr Bike" and he was educated at Stockport Grammar school in the early days. He did actually live on Shaw Road, Heaton Moor, Stockport. it was way before my time.

Would the name Sess Elkimbore ring a ding dong with you and others?

Have a great day, Dick. Have fun.....................

Brian.

I think you won that one Dick, as I knew Mr Bike was an associate of a well known Oxford bicycle dealer but by when I could investigate further, they had closed at noon.
