Simon,
My point was simply that in answer to the question 'please confirm for me if J2s had door sill plates', an affirmative based on one car was hardly definitive. Perhaps this is an yet another example of the J2 being facelifted in late '33 while waiting for the P Type, but do we know for sure? Probably not.

Andy
Can you please provide the length and width dimensions of your new N type sill plates? The material thickness would also help?

All the original J2's I have seen over the last 50 years have had the engraved MG Car Company Ltd plates as per Peters picture.

My PA, in the same family and unrestored since 1937 when I acquired it, has well-worn door sill plates.

Based on original NA0933 plates, I had a batch of N-Type plates made in stainless. The photo below shows the screw locations. Note that an original PB in the shop used linoleum type nails on the strips, NA0933 used #4 screws like T-Series.
No idea if these are correct for ND though.....

Hi Tom Many thanks for your photo which shows the sill plate full length. I now have a pair and will use your photo for guidance as to fitting position. Malcolm |

Hi Malcolm,
Sorry for the delay getting back. My NA is a fairly early one (NA0279) so may be different to later ones. The sills are covered in an aluminium capping held in place by round head linoleum nails and the company plates are held in by screws. Martin Barrett made me a new set some years ago (I sent him one of the originals to copy) as shown below. The dimensions are 30cm x 4.2cm (i.e. ~ 12 inches by 1 5/8 inches) they are 50 thou thick aluminium. I believe that this is original to this car.

Hi Andrew Many thanks for your reply which I have just seen this evening -so apologies for not acknowledging it earlier. My ND has the K 2 body in which the door sill has a slight curve , not visible in your photo of your NA. I would have thought it is possible that similar plates to yours could have been fitted to my ND as in the shorter form would not have needed to be curved. More food for thought. Malcolm |
