Benny Goodman does the trick for me! Or any other swing era jazz...

I'm in the AC/DC camp but have recently found a DAB station called 'Chris Country' that is a refreshing change - though the latter isn't available country wide yet...

Like Graham any Benny Goodman or 30s & 40s Big Band suit me in the garage and in fact were the preferred music when building R Types in the 1960s and still is with my current Triple-M project.
Good garage music lasts!! My son of course has a very different interpretation of garage music whatever that is, so perhaps I should retitle my choice as workshop music.

Jack Buchanan, Great singer/ actor from the 1930s amusing quote from his song ‘And her mother came too’
‘My car will meet her and her mother comes too, It’s a two-seater, still her mother comes too!’
Well worth a listen to on Google, Also his other songs, brilliant!

As I've been DJing since 16, a real music lover with very broad tastes and I'm only 39 I listen to a wide range of music when making MG interiors in my workshop. Anything from Nina Simone, Paul Simon, Eva Cassidy, modern rock like Kasabian, film soundtracks by the likes of Vangelis (Bladerunner a particular favourite) and Nils Frahm, ambient/shoegaze like M83, deep melodic house music but never hard, old soul and bands... basically anything that spikes my interest but I do love music with an emotional pull. It's whatever music puts you in a good place, focuses the mind and relaxes you. Everything has it's place and age and genres of music are irrelevant to me. My motorbike restorer mate listens to some seriously hard and heavy thrash metal most of the time, say's he hears the beauty in it. Each to their own I guess.
