Hi all,
I am a student at bicester college leaning how to restore and car for classic cars,

We have an MGPB that has been stripped, and we are figuring out how to reassemble it as part of the course. We have found we are missing the 8 specially headed bolts that hold the flywheel and rear flange that fits over the crankshaft together.

If anyone knows of any, that would be brilliant

Thanks, Matthew

I have bought these from Sports & Vintage in the past.

Hello Matthew.

These bolts are made especially for this application, accurately made for a snug fit and of a high grade of steel so you need to be very careful in your choice of bolts. They also have a flat on the heads to prevent them turning when tightening up.

I would bite the bullet and buy the correct bolts to the proper specification. They are expensive for a reason!

Hope that helps.

Chris.

The stuff Sports & Vintage sells is properly researched and proven over decades of use. These bolts are high spec and not cheap to produce. I wouldn't take any chances.

I have no connection with S & V other than being a satisifed customer for the best part of 50 years.

Buy the right bolts.
That Flywheel will spin at 5000rpm next to your ankles.

And a PB, nice college project!
Good luck.

Matthew,
how is the situation with your needed 8 bolts now ?
I have spotted in my spares a good used set, which you could have.

Send me your post-address. (e-mail address is in my profile)

Matthew. Further to Gerhard's generous offer of a set of original flywheel to crankshaft bolts, if you (or rather your tutor) would prefer using new ones from Sports & Vintage, I would be pleased to sponsor the college for the price of these. If my offer is of use to you, just reply "yes, please" and I will arrange for S&V to send a little parcel of eight bolts to you, at Bicester College. This is to express my appreciation to your tutor for his good taste in choosing such a lovely little car as a PB, rather than other vintage sports cars of lesser desirability. No charge - no hassle, although if your class make a mess of it, I might come up to Bicester and kick a few shins !

Thank you Chris and Simon for your kind words. It just seemed the right thing to do, which is a bit surprising for me as in matters financial I tend to think that I am as tight as a duck's bottom. Although I have three grand sons, I feel that I am totally detached from young people. I don't understand what they say or how they think, and to come across a bunch of youngsters who are going to be shown how to rebuild one of our great little cars as part of their college course is really splendid. Could be half a dozen or more new Triple M people coming along.

Colin, a most generous contribution to "hands across the generations" and a fine example of lateral thinking!

Perhaps the Register could go a bit further by offering to be project consultants in exchange for the opportunity to feature progress reports in one of our publications or SF!.

Is the PB on the Triple M Register? Is a picture available?
