PA1911 is one of the Dancing Daughters cars, recently sold by longtime owner George Shelley.

It is George in the film presenting his car. The large Union Jack is clearly visible which I believe identifies the car in question. Nick

George sold the car in about 2013. I believe it went to Germany. I don't have the exact details. And my comment of PA1911 was a typo. I should have typed PA1711.

Back to the original question, it would seem that there were commemorative watch produced but it would appear to be in the recent era. According to Ellman-Brown Austin-Rover marketed a watch in an elaborate box as part of to its MG memorabilia in the late 1980's, then there was a gold plated watch in a sachet as a limited edition commemorating the MGCC's diamond jubilee in 1990 (I thought that should be 1991!!) Austin Rover also offered cheaper watch, plain black face with white hands, with the only lettering being a stylised octagonal MG in red at 12 o'clock and the word 'quartz' under the centre. Then to commemorate 50 years of Abingdon production a Sicura watch. Finally just after production of the MGF was started two watches were offered in the MGF merchandising catalogue. Has anyone any knowledge of watches being made in period, lots of other things but I don't know of any watches?

I knew George sold PA1711 at auction and I remember it went overseas. But he didn't tell me it was for auction, so I had assumed it was to the end buyer. I don't remember where I picked up the idea it went to Germany. George is quite elderly and doesn't have email, so it is not easy to communicate with him, even if he did know the end customer. We need to find the car, as it is a significant part of MG's racing history.

I don't think its that car. The Le Mans cars were built for that purpose at the factory, this car has a standard body and has clearly had a life in competition elsewhere. For what its worth, the flag is slightly different on the Le Mans cars.
I have the pic in a book, and I have always suspected that the man is Macdermid, and that this is the P type which became his Cream Cracker. My only evidence is that he looks like the pics I have seen of Mac in various cars.

My wife bought me a watch a few years back, the seller said it was given to a MG person/relative, I cannot remember the details, but its a pretty thing and might be kosher ...

PA1711 (JB6158) was put up for auction by George Shelley in 2012 at Sotheby's in London. The price fetched was £151,000 and the purchaser was Christian Faber. I don't yet know where Christian resides but I suspect that it could be either France or Switzerland. He had the car on show at the Classic Le Mans meeting in July 2012 looking just as it did in 1935.

Slightly off the original topic but to add a little more information to PA1711 I was requested to carry out a Register Inspection of this car on the 13/10/2015 at Cars UK Ltd.situated near Bury St. Edmunds.
The company are well known in the storage and transport business of rare and interesting cars.
My enquirey as to the owner elicited the reply "one of our directors" which I felt may not have been the full story. The purpose of the Inspection was to provide evidence to enable the original registration number JB 6158 to be reclaimed which I assume was achieved.
I was allowed to take photos of the car on the basis that the shot did not include any details of adjacent vehicles many of which were very interesting and desirable. A copy of my report together with photos was passed to the appropriate Registrar for inclusion with that car's details.
