Many readers will remember the speed hill climbs which took place at Valence School (just off the A25 a mile to the east of Westerham in Kent) between 1962 and 1996. In recent years the Friends of Valence School have arranged a demonstration run using part of the original course to provide a flavour of the old competitive hill climbs and to provide funds for the school. This years demonstration which is being run with the assistance of The Sevenoaks and District Motor Club is to be held on Sunday the 13th May. Anyone interested in visiting Valence, either as an active participant or as a spectator can obtain further details from The Friends website at www.friendsofvalenceschool.com. Well worth a visit to see (and to hear) Jim Tiller's mighty 7 litre 1948 Allard J2X which was a regular "star turn" of the original speed events for many years.
