For my L1 I will need in the near future a set of front Trunnions. Is there someone who have a set in spare? I mean the trunnionframes, not the Bushes.
Best regards, Pim

Pim, I think that you are meaning the front cast dumb iron knuckle. It's here where the the chassis number is stamped, so I doubt that anyone will be able to send you a spare one. I think that someone with more knowledge than me should advise you further. Paul. |

I think what Pim is referring to is the front trunnion boxes into which the bushes fit.
I am not sure if anyone sells these new - either Sports & Vintage Motors or Andy King may be able to help?

I know Ron Grant did these for most models so presumably someone has Ron’s patterns to produce more ?

Sorry Pim, miss-understood. Tom Dark made some K ones, don't know if he has any other types in stock, also could try Andy King or Richard Hardy. Paul. |

Hello Paul, No I did not mean the ones on the front. That knuckles, left and right, are just 85 years old and in original and good condition. The frontsprings are ending in a dumpiron box that is filled with two slidings Bushes and a lot of grease. That are the boxes I am interested in.

I also need a pair of these, so if there is a supplier or some for sale I am interested. Last option is to make some, they don't seem that complicated.

Chris,
As far as I know there is no supplier for this item. Your suggestion that they are not difficult to make is far besides the truth. You must have a mall to produce the dumbiron housing. Then you have to machine the rooms inside to receive the Bushes and to receive the lid. Pff, that easier said than done.

I bought my new front trunnion boxes from the late Peter Gregory.
The boxes/lids have to be cast and I wonder where the patterns went?

I will be looking at making some reproductions, although informed that they are ' difficult ' one should be aware that some items I have reproduced on Rovers are ' really difficult ' !!!

I have had a machine shop bore out my existing trunnion boxes and press in stainless steel liners. It wasn't expensive as I recall. However, that assumes the rest is usable, if you have them at all. The usual problem is that the bore has been worn oval shaped due to a lack of proper lubrication. The sleeve cures that.

Picking up on this forum thread today, I can advise all that I have the Peter Gregory patterns as well as our own. We have made and sold these in the past and I will be machining what castings I already have in the near future. They were set aside for my projects but could be finished to help both Pim and Chris out. Price £295.00 pair + VAT + Postage at cost. Pim/Chris - I have sent separate e-mails to you and given you priority to reply and would appreciate your decision either way before I take time out to complete these orders. Andy 01949 860519 |
