here's something to talk about...this was for sale at the scarcely believable price of £175k for a long time didn't sell so off to auction....estimate of £100 to 120K but sold for £91k I'm not sure this isn't still a tad too much considering it's an F Type chassis re-bodied to L2 with a S/C L Type engine am I wrong? it is very nice though.....what's your thoughts

by the way if someone here bought it I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun

How can the car be called an F type when an L type Chassis Number is quoted?

Are you sure, Peter? At the end of the listing it says ‘SALEROOM NOTICES Please note the chassis number for this car is F0485.’

Peter, if you scroll down there is, at the bottom of the info, a "Saleroom notice", stating that the chassis number is F0485.

If it went, inc premium, for £91,100 it meant the seller received a tad over £60,000!!! Hammer price about £76,000 less sellers commission. Not bad Bonhams gets about 1/3 of the amount the buyer pays. I'm guessing that the premiums are about 17.5% + VAT i.e. about 20%

it is an F type chassis F0485 with apprently an L2 type body (maybe it was a typo and should have been a F2 body?) it has an L type crossflow engine S/C'd....can you fit an L2 style body to F type Chassis without chopping it all about? what about fitting an L type engine into an F type chassis do the chassis engine mounting positions need modifying or something or is this all straight forward change and easy enough?

a shame it was massively overpriced in the first instance (£175K) I thought the estimate at Bonhams was quiet weighty at £100 to £120k if the seller had priced it sensibly at between £60k and £70k he might have sold it and got a bit more in his pocket....I might of even bothered to go and have a look......never mind.....as it is I think the seller has taken a big hit on what he paid for it

The car is an F type fitted with a supercharged N type engine and pre-select gearbox. It does look very nice but never worth the £175000 as advertised on the www.prwarcar.com web site.
I agree the actual price works out at about £76000 if the auction charges are 17.5% + VAT.
Russ - the 2 seat body would be fitted with little trouble.

Russ, an N type engine fitted. The F2 body tub is the same as an L2 body tub.

Simon,
I did not bother to read the lengthy 'salesman's' description of the car so I did not see the 'Saleroom Notice' at the bottom of the page. Why did they not correct the Chassis Number in the cars description at the top of the page, next to the main picture of the car, when they discovered the error?

ah ok.....wonder why they bothered to say it was an L2 body if it's the same as an F2 body wouldn't it have been better to call it an F Type re-bodied to F2 with later N Type engine.....probably splitting hairs.....anyway I'm sure the new owner will be whizzing about in it catching flies in his teeth this summer

Dear Russ and Forum:
Ian Ross's F Type Manga Registry neatly describes the car as follows.
F0485-F1 Four seat Tourer(?) recently rebuilt as replica 2-seat with K-type engine, pre-selector gearbox and supercharger. As for the L Type issue. Smoke and mirrors. All the best.

Hello, John.
In that case the engine would be a KD engine, very similar to the subsequent N type engine.
Thanks for the information.
