Hi Folks,
I'm looking for a set/pair of original J2 cycle wing lower mounting brackets to replace the ones I have which appear to be bent, especially the N/S (left side) one. This one appears to be bent towards the back and up as the pictures show. The O/S one may be OK but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any experience with straightening these brackets?
Thanks,
John
Nick,
I see I put this in "parts for sale". It should be in "parts wanted". Could you please move it for me? Thanks, John

John this is quite a common problem. These stays all seem to have suffered over the years. They don't seem to succumb to heat and brute force. However I have dealt with them in the past by cutting of the base plate, cleaning up and then welding plate back to give the correct angle. With a bit of fettling it is not too difficult to get them back in shape. Take the length measurement before you cut,

It seems an appropriate time to mention that I have recently made the patterns to reproduce these1930s F2/J type aerofoil lower wingstays. Patterns are at the iron foundry at the moment.
These are not the solid more modern aluminium repro type. These are aerofoil cored, plus also have the recessed boss and, a cast square hole. Prototype SG iron castings may be ready to start machining within the next 2 to 3 weeks all being well
I have decided to produce these as I too had real problems finding lower brackets which were not bent!
