Dear All

I need 2 12v dynamos for my spare engines!

Having seen the cut down dynamo in a current for sale post it might be a good time to ask if anyone has any of the missing bits or ideas for using bits from more available units... or maybe I should make an offer for it

Thoughts ideas and parts welcomed, even a complete unit...!

Cheers

P

Peter,

Dont't some of the suppliers still do dynamos converted from regular Lucas C40 dynamos? That's what I have in my engine although it's a tight fit and the head has to come off to get it in or out.

Simon

I didn't know. That is a useful fallback position.

I shall enquire if no bits turn up.

Many thanks

I also have a two brush dynamo and regulator as supplied by Sports & Vintage Motors. The arrangement works really well with a good rate of charge.

I do not understand why Simon has to remove the cylinder head in order to remove the dynamo? I have removed mine without having to resort to such drastic action even though it was a tight fit.

George,

There simply isn't room to get the dynamo fork past the vertical drive fork. I've tried it every which way but without success. Having the engine apart at the moment has given me the chance to get the dynamo repaired (again!) so hopefully once the engine is all back together again not only will the engine work properly - at last - but the dynamo might, as well! Fingers crossed

Simon,
Would the use of a shallower fork not be the answer? These are available from the usual suppliers.

I have the same problem, and a shallow fork would mean even more washers..., there is a lot more meat on the new forks I am using so they snag. Are you using new forks Simon?

In fact the forks aren't the problem - the problem is that the the end of the dynamo armature is so close to the end of the vertical drive pinion that there isn't enough room to lift and manoeuvre the dynamo out.

Just had Peter Scott show me hows it done, eg remove top fork bolts and it will let the dyno come out fine.
