The axles that Ron had left were deemed to be unusable and were scraped. I think you will find that possibly Baynton Jones is the only source in the U.K. of these K type axles.
I知 wondering if they were actually scrapped, i.e. could they still be saved. Where did they go ? I saw these axles and it痴 my considered opinion that some of them could have been salvaged.( some cracks in the spring platform area and not in critical areas.)
The problem was, there were tares in the castings through contraction.
Casting front axles in steel is a serious process as it is a safety critical component and requires specialist patterns for steel. Ron's patterns for the front axle had shortfalls and I recalling him telling me many years ago that there were problems. Such patterns require risers in all the right places and having purchased the majority of his MMM patterns, I diliberately passed on these, so I could sleep at night!
There were no raw castings available at the time of sale, just a pattern which I think was purchased by Andy King.
To correct Richards comment, I did not buy the front axle pattern from Ron Grants estate. As Ray has posted earlier on this thread, he states axles that were deemed to be unusable had been scrapped and I believe that the pattern had also been scrapped at that time - perhaps "the executors" can confirm? Andy
I am sure some of the Gregory built K3 lookalikes had new front axles which are very different in looks to the factory axles. I believe Baynton Jones did supply these axles?
Thanks George and all I am in contact with Charles at Baynton Jones. I知 sure a resolution will be found. Fox has advised a temporary fix so I can be confident about the upcoming events. Thanks.
