Does anyone know where one can buy crimp on cable connectors in small quantities now that Maplin have closed?

If you only need a few, Halfords stock them in small packs. Not particularly cheap, but possibly convenient.

The biggest issue is deciding what you are trying to achieve.

Most modern crimps are insulated, look hideous on old cars yet are better than original. Are you looking for original or practical?

A short length of black heat shrink hides the coloured insulation. Likewise when using ring terminals.
