I'm looking to borrow these items to refurbish the track rods and ends on Marks PB.the correct size is 5/8"x20 tpi Whitworth Form. Both LH and RH threads. ( Not to be confused with BSW ).
I can't find a source of taps new and dies cost more than new track rods.
Can anyone help!,can't be a new problem.Thanks Tony D.

Tony,

Tracy Tools may be able to help. https://www.tracytools.com
They certainly have the RH thread and not too expensive if you buy carbon steel. You'll need to ask them about LH.

Hi Tony

I have used Tracy Tools and found them to be very helpful and efficient.

I am planning to go to the Midlands Model Engineering exhibition at Leamingtom Spa on 18th of this month. If you are still looking for the dies I could ask around - there are always exhibitors who sell second hand tools etc and you never know....!

I always try Tracy Tools first,as u say they rarely let u down.
They have the dies, but more expensive than new track rods,so what I need are a pair of taps that they don't have.
I'm surprised this isn't a common problem with members .Using a lathe to clean up track rods is probably not too difficult, but cutting an internal LH thread requires a higher skill level.
Will buy new track rod ends if all else fails, but I prefer to use original parts if I can.thanks for advice anyway.Tony
