I now need these replacement pieces for my D-type engine; a crankshaft flange with little or no wear and rear main bearing/sleeve.

I also need a replacement sump-to-pump oil pipe too (crushed it getting the engine out)

Having dismantled my engine due to a lock-up it is now clear I'll need a replacement setup at the rear main bearing. I'm asking for these 2 parts that are probably shared across the M,D,J & F type engines but I'm open to what better solutions can be installed at this key location?

Source of the problem was the sleeve fusing itself to the flange ... not nice and impossible to separate without destroying. It's an original, crack tested crankshaft by the way.

Chris,

Barry Foster may be able to help with the pipe. When my engine was first built (at great expense) this pipe bizarrely wasn't replaced (although all others were) and it started to leak and draw air after a few hundred miles. Thankfully Foz got me out of trouble with a new pipe by return of post. Worth trying to see if he still does them.

Hi Simon, I'd assumed Foz had hung his boots up on the pipe front. I know Mike does them but ... my main call is gathering the right pieces to reassemble the rear end asap

Who knows Foz's contact details?

I think he's still doing pipes, Chris - worth a try. It's certainly not worth getting an old secondhand one. If it leaks - and it probably will - you lose oil pressure instantly.

I have a spare crank flange and bronze sleeve if you still need them.

Looking at the current posts on: http://www.triple-mregister.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=15350

Is it that situation that caused your: "Source of the problem was the sleeve fusing itself to the flange ... not nice and impossible to separate without destroying."?

If so, a cautionary tale for all of us.

I've had this experience. It's caused by a loose flywheel and results in the sleeve being friction welded to the crankshaft. I got mine off but I never thought I would. I think a six pound hammer was involved.

I should add, it's likely to happen if the sleeve isn't properly lapped onto the taper.

Gents, I think my sledge hammer was backed up by a disc-cutter, chisel and heat to get it off. What it is now clear, although I trusted an experience chap to assemble my D engine some 8 years ish ago, I do not feel capable to re-do this properly. Specifically, this job needs to be handed to those that do it right.
