Rob,
According to the Factory records Registration Number HY 7565 was originally issued to a J1 chassis number J0431 which was originally a Salonette.

As most people know the term 'Replica' is used very sparingly by the Register and we do not recognize the description when applied to any Triple-M car other than the factory produced M Type 12/12 Replicas.
So this lovely car was and remains a J1, now re-built 'in the style of a J4'.

This J was imported into NZ from UK by the current owner. It is indeed a J1, rebuilt using Triple-M parts as a J4, so it is really a J1 Special. The engine is 847cc (J2) not 750cc
There is a bit of information about this car on the NZ Triple-M Register website (go to www.mgclub.org.nz/Information/Registers.

Is it known which PA is featured in the article that Geoff has shared with us?

Yes I did that rebuild for Mark Green with the requirement for everything J4 spec apart from retaining the standard J1/2 engine capacity. It did take time... sourcing certain parts can delay progress. Everything on the NZ site is correct except the spelling of MONTLHERY.........thats French spelling for you! FOZ |

Lew Palmer could identify the PA Airline in the article. Unfortunately the Airline Coupe Website appears to have been lost ?.
We are here for a good time, not a long time !. |

I believe the Airline in Graham Cowie's article, as posted by Brian Kelly, is PA1189, now owned by Phillip Goerl of California, but unfortunately no longer an Airline Coupe, but currently a 2 seater.
Graham Cowie wrote the book "Yesterday's Motoring" from which the article is taken.(ISBN 0 908708 25 4)
The Airline Coupe website is not lost, but my web master retired and I don't have the skills to do it myself. I am looking for someone who will take it over as a pro bono effort. I have all the files and the records to resurrect it.

Hi Lew
In essence you're right about the article's source but not quite. Graham wrote the book "Yesterday's Motoring" which included a very similar write-up on the Airline, but the actual article was from the Vintage Car Club (NZ) magazine, Beaded Wheels. If anyone is desperate for an original copy of the magazine I'm sure I can track one down given a little time

Kevin, That is likely true, but the wording of the article and the book are VERY similar.
PA1189 is a bit of a mystery. Originally it started life as a two seater, but some early notes on the Goerl car say the body came from PA1189. So in reality it may be PA0539 with the later transplant of the PA1189 body. However, Graham Cowie mentions that Lord Avery was the source of the Airline, but PA1189 as bought by an A Avery is clearly shown as a 2 seater.
Dick Morbey, we may need to sort this out.

As mentioned above I've managed to track down a couple of spare copies of Beaded Wheels with the Airline article if anyone would like one |

Thanks Lew
I will add the mysteries of PA1189 and PA0539 to my bulging file of unsolved identity issues. AT least we have the contact details for Philip G, the current owner over on your side of the pond.
