Is there a kind soul out there who can possibly very kindly lend me a LH and RH track rod die

This is an urgent requirement for a personal job, not a production run on anything!

Any responses, please email me direct at enquiries@vintagemgparts.com

Many thanks indeed

Rich

Richard, I don’t have any, but I suspect Tracy Tools in Torquay will be able to supply you some if it’s urgent. I’ve had some unusual taps and dies from them in the past. They have a website you can google.

Hi Rich, If it's a one off would not screw cutting be the quickest way out?

Richard,
My PB drag link has 5/8" OD x 20 TPI LH & RH threads:

Is this what you require? - Sorry, don't have the thread dies.

Thanks all. I know the sizes and to purchase a LH and RH tap for this size is very expensive for a one off job.

When cutting down and steering and track rods for J4 divided track steering I would prefer to use a die as the thread cut will be cleaner. I may just have to resort to screw cutting on the lathe

Regards

Rich

Does anyone know (with absolute certainty) what the original thread pitch is?

Thanks

Richard,
For what it is worth, the notation on my TAPS for the track rod ends and nuts are:-

Right hand:-

PRESTO
G 3/8
BSP- ISO
HSS - GT

and the Left hand tap:-

20
5/8-20
HS

Tracey Tools can only offer a Unified die so is 2.5 degrees out on the pitch, translating to 18 TPI which will not do sadly.

Hi Bob, they list the RH die but they do not have 55 deg.they alsodontstock the LH die. Didn’t think it would be this difficult. Will go down the screw cutting route after all. Thanks to all who have contributed.

Rich,
........" but they do not have 55 deg."
I believe that the 5/8" OD x 20 TPI track/drag link thread-form is British Standard Cycle (BSC), in which case the thread included angle is 60 deg.

Do you know what your track-rod ends/ball-joints female thread forms are? - 55 deg or 60 deg? - Difficult to measure but http://www.amsteer.co.uk should know.

Amsteer have previously proven some rather misleading thread form information in the past when I had asked several mongs ago.
