Looks fabulous. The lower picture could have been taken in the 1930s!

A few years ago it was a fantastic machine. Anyone know what happened to it to end up in this state?

According to the register and the current owner, he bought it in 2011 as a chassis and had been like that for some time. He is doing a good job. |

Paul,
The well known photo beside the car shows Doreen Evans in it. So it’s pretty close to how it looked then.

So is it QA0254, or the chassis that was originally in Tom Darks' Q Rep/Special which became surplus when the original chassis was incorporated into it? |

No can of worms, it's just out of interest as not so long ago QA0254 was trundling around Goodwood as a complete (and rapid) car. |

I agree with Chris. Also I would not have posted the pics if I new this would happen. The owner of the chassis is a good friend who made no claims to its identity and I only referred to the Register entry which is now being questioned. Oh dear !! |

Don’t worry, Graham, I am assured by those who know that this car is indeed the real thing built upon the genuine chassis of Q0254. You can find more info in The Hawke History of MMM Competition Cars

Why is it a problem to ask clarification? As stated a few years ago it was a fully working race car of not insignificant value (monetary and historical) that now looks like a worn project. Something must have happened to get it like this. Any future historians will be forever grateful to have the correct reference when they look up info on this forum in 2150 ;)
