I have just started reading Graham Hill's book Life at the Limit. When he worked for Lotus as a mechanic in their early days one of his jobs was fitting J2 gearboxes bought off dumps to 2 litre Bristol engines!!!!! That says a lot for the strength of the box or maybe they had a short life but a merry one.
