On closer examination I now find that I already have a genuine J1 rocker/cam cover plate after all. But it is a different (probably earlier) version and only says "J" rather than "J1".
Looking at the detail, like Peter's, my plate specifies a "6 gallon" petrol tank capacity - which means it really is correct for a J1.
My plate (above) rather ambiguously calls the 6 gallon tank a "MAIN PETROL TANK" seeming to suggest a separate reserve tank. But Peter's plate clearly states "TANK CAPACITY 6 GALLONS INCLUDING 2 GALS RESERVE".
Rich Hardy's plate appears to be a third version (mentioned here http://www.triple-mregister.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=16542) .
