There is no difference it is the same axle on a M type maybe the axle that you have is not prewar minor. I have the dimensions of a M type axle if you want to check yours. Pat

Nigel, is it possible you have a Morris 8 front axle?

Sam, the Series E in your photo apparently will fit but the earlier ones have parallel fixing holes and won't fit the tapered chassis.

I have a spare axle that came with my M. It has unusual drums, much finer fins compared to the ones on my car.
Parts are in South Africa

Lions. If you want to separate both hubs complete before you sell the axle I would take both.
Cheers pat

Sam exactly what I think I have a Morris Minor front axle. Looks the same but about 30mm wider and tapered fitting track rod ends. The car is only a rolling chassis at the Monument and the bolts did't want to line up freely on the beam pads to springs. I wonder if the later Minor side chassis rails are slight different angles to the M. As far as I can see the bolt holes in the axle beam determines the front of the axle. The other thing I found on this car was the rear axle brake back plate bolt were too short to hold the cable retaining bracket. I seem to remember it only had just inner cable going from the cross shaft to leaver on back plates. I sure the rear axle is correct as the Minor axle is wider between spring mount to brake back plates and when did the Minor have hydraulic brakes ? Early 30's I'm thinking anyway my rear axle hasn't got any holes that would have held brake pipes.
Thank you all for your comments I Appreaciate learning what an M should be like.

Nigel, you have an early Morris 8 axle. All minor and m axles are identical. See previous post. Minor and M axles have angled bolt holes, early 8 has parallel holes. Morris Eight Series E has angled holes but is wider and looks like Sam's first photo. A photo of both axles would be a big help.

Is this image of any help? I believe it is another version of the Morris 8 axle easily mistaken for M-type.

Yes the morris axle looks the same as the M even has the lug under neath between king pin and spring pads. For a matter of interest can anyone say what these holes are for.
