If you are the current owner of this car, I have some information which may be of interest. Our cars where owned by the same person in the late 1950s,early 1960s.

Please send a PM.

J2 2739, OJ 6300.

Hi Colin and others,

I found him on the various registers but unable to find him on the USA members contact details, on this forum. Either he is not listed under his own name or he is not on the list. I tried to contact him in 2007 but not luck. If anyone has an email address or contact for him, it would be most appreciated.

As the Registrar for the NAMMMR, I can say with certainty that he has never been a member nor do I have any record of the car. Perhaps however, Reinout Vogt may have some lead as he is prone to chasing up every M-type in North America.

Upon recheck, I find I do have a record of J3020 in the US. However, the owner never registered or joined the NAMMMR, so I have no contact information.

I have some detail on this car/chassis number who's history crossed over with both J3015 & J2739 in the late 70s whilst the then owner was in Lincolnshire. I just have a brief summary with me, which suggests a complicated story, but more info in the MBH files which are "locked down" at the moment.

Hey Ian and Lew,
Unfortunately, I have no information on this J2. I do indeed try to find all North American M-Types and sometimes run into other cars. But no luck with this one.

Hi JMH and forum,
I was not aware that J3020 crossed with J2739 again the 70s. Nor that J2739 ever having been in Lincolnshire. I have a complete blank in the history between the mid 60s (when it was on the road) and early 90s, having been taken apart and some work had been started.
Any information would be much appreciated.
Ian

Hi Ian, from Dad's summary (which the Registrar has the 2010 version), it seems that it was only the Guarantee Plate from J2739 which was still with J3015/J3020 in the late 70s rather than anything more substantial. When they lift lock down I can go & have a proper look in the files.

Hi JH,
When I bought J2 2739 in early 1992, the dealer had removed the guarantee plate, as it was from another J2, but gave no details. The Octagon CC, had a record of someone making an enquiry a couple of years before and the guarantee plate was from J2 3020.
In 2007 I was contacted by a previous owner from c1960, following a MGOC lost and found advert.
He said he had owned both cars and carried out work on both, fitting the guarantee plate from 3020 to 2739 by mistake, but did not remember what happened to the original plate for my car. I tried to contact the listed owner of 3020 but no joy.
So there is a chance of my original plate still being with 3020.
Ian.

not that this helps, but the NAMMM membership directory of 2006 lists J2 3020 owner as "unknown" this would imply that the car was known at one time as being in the US. 2006 is the earliest directory I have and obviously the whereabouts of the car was lost to the register.
