As William Morris ran a taxi service from Longwall Road from 1904, and seeing most of the cars have drivers, were these perhaps his taxis, rather than cars for sale?

This is William Morris's Longwall garage in 1907. Morris is seated in the car at the extreme right. Below is a wider view version of the same photo. The wooden building, which had been used as the printing works for Jackson’s Oxford Journal, was located at 100 Holywell Street, Oxford, on the corner of Longwall and backing on to the city wall encircling New College gardens. William Morris leased the premises in 1898 to provide additional facilities for the manufacture and repair of bicycles and motor cycles. Soon after Morris had moved into the premises at Longwall, the site was used to garage cars that often belonged to wealthy undergraduates from Oxford University, which included the 48hp Daimler tourer owned by HRH The Prince of Wales. Inevitably Morris became acquainted with the mechanics of these cars such that he was now able to add ‘Motor Repairs a Speciality’, to his function as ‘Sole maker of the celebrated Morris cycles and motor cycles’. The rest is history.

An ariel view of the site, now. The large red building ,21, is the replacement. The city walls can be seen running below it with the battlements and fortifications still clear.

When it was rebuilt I understand they had to keep the façade.

William, I can recommend 3 years at Oxford, it helps learn the geography and land marks to return to base after an evening of indulgence!
