Just wasting my time watching "Talking Pics" on TV,good for old films
and they are just showing a 1939 film "Sons of the Sea",which has prominent footage of one of the major characters driving an NB 4 seater in the Dartmouth area. The car is red with the registration
CLX 730.Is this still in existence ?

Think this is a different car - NA0613 is a NA 4 seater and at that time time was in Beverly Hills (also in movies and red). In addition to "houndhome"'s post here is the you tube link

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1j-Aq3bbd8

Here is a pic of my car (NA0613) taken in late 1930's/early 1940's in California with its original Rochdale registration DK 9748. Probably two tone red - windscreen removed for the movies and added bumpers.

There is a photo, in a book. Can I remember what or where?
The car, possibly an N, belonged to one of the staff officers at the naval college at Dartmouth.

The maritime connection may mean there is a link.

Cheers

PS Might have been Winkle Brown's "Wings on my Sleeve"

Also when my car was in the movies it had various spurious registration license plate numbers - I'm not saying that CLX 730 is incorrect just that it might be, as it was common to change them out for filming.

NA0613 appears to have been CLX 730 from the start (according to factory records when it was first registered to a certain S Kay-Menzies of Rochdale), and it still retained that reg at 2002.

However a subsequent owner, Terry Sanders of Caliornia indicated in 2009 that it had the reg was DK 9748 from the very start, which appears to contradict the factory record! However DK is a Rochdale area reg ... Kay-Menzies is said to have moved to Beverley Hills in 1935 and took the car with him.

A mystery waiting to be solved! I'll defer at this point to George Eagle our N type registrar....

btw talking of NB's in movies there is one in "Its a Grand Life" starring Diana Dors (it hasn't aged well!!) it appears at about 54 min 30 secs in the movie.

Seems to be some sort of confusion as to where the starter button is !!

Terry resolved this conclusively with the original factory guarantee card filled out by Kay-Menzies, the MG build record, repair work on delivery (New Years day 1935) supported by photos and correspondence obtained by him directly from the Kay-Menzies family all refer to as a 4 seater MG NA reg DK 9748. MG records has it configured as follows

Chassis No. NA 0613
Body Colour Red
Upholstery Colour Red
Wheel Colour Aluminium
Gearbox Number 377
Rear Axel Number 344
Model 4 seater
Engine Number 866AN
Starter Number 56574
Body Number 264/924

Original photo of NA 0613 in 1935 with Mr. Stewart Kay-Menzies at the wheel in Beverly Hills with imported US registration in addition to UK original

The car in "Sons of the Sea" cannot,I assume ,be DK 9748 since the doors have the long NB hinges at the front of the door, whereas
DK 9748 has the hinges at the of the door. rear

Also CLX 730 has the light red on the bonnet top (as per NB) whereas DK 9748 has the two tone reversed with the
bonnet top the darker colour.I believe the NA was regarded as being a bit high, and reversing the colours made the
NB look a little lower.

When I saw "1939 film" I thought it might be this film, made in about 2010 which I think was called 1939, again I think it was about nazi sympathisers in the year before war broke out. That featured an M.G. 18/80 Mk 11, ALB 3, a very well known car. I can't, however, find the film on Google.

Ref my post above...
Sorry, confused it is an L Type and probably belonged to one of the officers on the staff of the Naval College at Dartmouth in 1950. It is BXN545 and the photo is in Submariner by John Coote. There is also a Wolseley in the photo: ALK216.
