Having just complete my entry for the VSCC Madresfield driving tests, I see that my Powder fire extinguisher is no longer accpetable and that I now need a Foam (AFFF) one. However the smallest foam extiguisher which I can track down is 365mm x 110mm x 152mm.
Is this the smallest one available? It is 2 litres. 1 litre ones seem to be bigger! Certainly longer.
If it is the smallest, where on earth do you fit is in a PA? 365mm seems to be marginally too long to fit across the front of the passenger seat, where the current one is. I undersatnd from the VSCC web site that it is not permissable to fit it under the bonnet. However I am not sure if this includes the area under the bonnet but aft of the bulkhead.
Helpful suggestions would be much appreciated, Peter

I found that when I had a conflagration many years ago, when I opened the bonnet the rush of air caused it to flair up - there is no way I could have retrieved an extinguisher from the under bonnet area! I put mine just in front of the passenger seat - not exactly invisible but easy to get at!
Incidentally, I was saved by a sympathetic passer by, and went on to the 'noggin and natter' in another car. Came back at midnight, the car started so I drove home! Needed ignition rewiring and a bonnet respray - and a new float in the front carb, a leaky one being the original cause - Happy days! (but might not have been...)

Yes the logic for not fitting the extinguisher under the bonnet is quite convincing.
Did you manage to find a foam AFFF extinguisher which fits across the front edge of the passenger seat?

I was recommended by Andrew Taylor to try a firm called FEV
Their web site is at http://www.f-e-v.co.uk/index.asp?upid=17&msid=3&tlid=42 (this page is all about their smallest AFFF extinguisher, which is 1.75 litres in capacity). I am told that with AFFF it's as well to get the largest extinguisher that you can sensibly accommodate, as they do exhaust themselves very quickly. Some people also carry a powder one as a reserve!

I confess I have not competed for some years, so have not felt the need to replace my old halon extinguisher - presumably its only illegal if I use it!

I believe halon is banned and entry would be refused by event organisers (such as VSCC) operating under MSA rules. I daresay it works perfectly well though!

You are correct Halon has been banned for some time for any purpose. There are a few exceptions which I believe applies to certain Governmant agencies. For MSA events Powder is banned from this year, which is why I am looking for a Foam extiguisher which will fit in a PA.
The link which you provided is useful but I would like to fit it along the front edge of the pasenger seat if possible and the FEV product, at 385mm, is too long. Searching the web I have found a Gloria 2 ltr foam extinguisher which is 365mm x 108mm x 145mm. I think that this may just fit across the front of the seat.
Where did you mount your extinguisher, Dick?

Errm, I must confess that I still have a 350mm powder unit.
I bought a 2 ltr AFFF a while ago - a "Firepower" unit but have not fitted it! It's 395mm long! If the FEV is as long as you say, it would be a struggle to fit that, too. Let me know how you get on with Gloria!

Well I got on fine with Gloria. She fits a PA a treat. So problem solved.
So if you need a foam extinguisher which fits a MMM car then I recomend 'Gloria' who can be bought for a very reasonable sum at http://www.safelincs.co.uk/product.php?xProd=219&xSec=29&fdb=true
After a little haggling about prices, I bought mine from a local specialist. I found it very helpful to deal with an expert face to face rather than with the faceless web. But he started at ú48 v ú33 incl carriage, so there was a significant amount of haggling to do!
