Sorry, stretching it a bit as it's not an MG engine, but a friend sent me this photo from 50's/60's of a special belonging to a friend of his at the time. It looks to have rather a special engine, twin OHC, twin SU's, 6 cylinder etc. He can't remember what it was and has me stumped. Can’t help with identifying this engine, but don’t think it can be a Salmson if it has six cylinders.

Looks like a Ballot. You might need to do some research to get the exact variant but just the 4 cylinders

Thanks, all for info. Looks a bit like the Ballot. I thought it was a 6 because of the engine length but may well be a 4. The cams appear to be driven by a vertical shaft for each cam and the distributor/magneto right at the front end low down. Another photo but better not go further as it's a bit "off piste"! Knowing nothing of these cars, I note that the car in question has the induction on the left while Kevin's one has it on the right.....
