Dear All

Hap Hazard's post has set me thinking...

I find Safety fast pretty much a waste of time, just skim the adverts but then devour our lovely Catheljene's offerings and then pass it on the a non member MGA owner...

How much I would prefer to receive the Bulletin instead, as long as C's offerings are included, of course...

Would our valiant committee like to consider this one day?

Cheers

Why not just have a MMM Club? ( Independent). Surely we have the numbers to make it viable?

I must say I thought the J2 article in the August issue was rather good.

Don’t forget, if it wasn’t for the MG Car Club there’d be no Register, no chassis files, no history.

At first sight, this seems like heresy, BUT over the years there have been many spin-offs, usually caused the the MGCC top brass of the time not being willing to accommodate alternative views: the Early MG Society, the Octagon CC, the MGT Society, and probably also the MG Owners Club (which isn't a club in the normal sense of the word...). There are other special interest groups, which could all sit happily under the MGCC unbrella, but chose not to.

My point (and frustration) is simple. I am a big advocate of supporting clubs, for without members, you do not have a movement. I don’t have an issue with joining the MG car club at all, but I do have an issue when it doesn’t give me direct access to the Bulletin, especially when you are paying a fairly hefty membership fee. Even more bewildering is, the Bulletin appears to be available, free of charge to the entire world just days/weeks(?) after it’s published, so where’s the incentive to join?. This is astounding to me as you are not protecting the clubs investment. Surely the Triple M group is stronger under the parent arm of the MG car club? So if you join the main club, that’s when you should get free access to recent online Bulletins. Bulletins say older than say 5 years can still be made available to the wider community, but first and foremost, PROTECT your product!
I am also aware that the Bulletin costs money to produce, however with todays technology (and you’re doing it anyway) online bulletins do not incur any significant costs to the club (which should be funded from the coffers of the parent club anyway). Should a new member wish to have paper copies, my past experience has taught me, distribution forms about a 1/3rd of total production costs, printing about half, so that’s when you then apply an extra charge to receive paper bulletins.
This to me is both logical and entirely sensible and why wouldn’t you as the parent club not want to more effectively promote and support specialist groups within the marque, thus increasing membership in the process…it really does melt my mind. (But hey, maybe I am missing something here?).
Finally, as a new voice barging in through the door, I don’t for one second expect anything to change just because of my views, the club has operated quite successfully without my 20 penths worth, but after serving as a Secretary and an editor (8 years as editor) of another club, I have a deep respect for 2 things; 1: serving on a Board is a largely thankless task, 2: without membership, a club is nothing, so you need vision looking into the future.
I think I have said far too much, so I will tootle off now….

Bruce, at times you refer to "The Journal", at times to The Year Book and at times to the Bulletin and seem to think these should all be yours as of right having joined the MGCC. You do get Safety Fast! and it's not all MGAs & MGBs.

There are many registers within the Club and I'm not sure if all of them produce independent publications. If you are to get all the Triple M stuff as a membership benefit, then members of all registers should do so as well as I'm sure you would agree. If a particular member's register does not produce anything he may perhaps feel a little aggrieved, as you are getting more than he is for the same subscription.

By the same token, I have cars from three different registers so of course, I should get all publications of all three registers. You might now feel somewhat aggrieved as I am now getting more than you!

I would imagine that, were your utopia to come to pass, the MGCC subscription would have rise, if not as far as energy.

In the end I see no other way than the current one although I think you may have a point with the fairly early on-line availability of The Bulletin where I see I can already download number 126, April/May '22.

Hi Nick and Dave,
All I know is I could view this years bulletin up to 126 before I got any access after paying my membership and getting unrestricted access. If I sign out I can still view them, so I don’t have any idea of how soon they go up on the public viewing, but do you know what, it’s your train set, you do as you see fit.
I have merely expressed a view in which you are perfectly entitled to either agree with or disagree with. As for thinking I should be entitled to get something for free, then may I respectfully point out, you’re already giving a huge chunk out for free anyway, so why in the good lords name would I fork out £55 if I thought I should be entitled to anything for free? In fact if you actually read my previous post, you would see I am actually advocating the exact opposite. So that statement is plain nuts….
As I said it’s your train set and to be honest I don’t have the energy anymore to care and we can all do without the agro and the negative atmosphere it is creating, besides, my views won’t change anything. As for terms used Bulletin or Journal, I think we can all work out what I mean….
Regards,
Bruce

Not agro, just checking to see if someone was publishing the Bulletin somewhere other than on this website.
