Hi all, am after a new 3’9 front axle after discovering the one I have is bent, for a project car. Appreciate a long shot but if anyone has an N axle they are happy to part with would really help me to get on the road! Many thanks

Can't it be straightened? If Blaker Welding is still around they did some fine work on my J2 (back in the 1980s). They used to be in Dialpost.

N902 has had a TC front axle for 12 years . It is almost identical to the real deal. The only mod needed was to very slightly widen the bolt holes for the springs. Geoff

Also, N/Q front axles have robust strengthening ribs at the rear of the spring mounting platforms.

I can also heartily endorse Blakers however, they have moved to near Billingshurst; https://blaker.co.uk/

The thing to remember, but I'm sure they are well aware of this, NO heat can be used. There is an MG service notice to this effect.

good luck,

Dave

As Dave (OZ34) says, Blakers are still in business (very much so) and are at Adversane, (near Billinshurst) just east of the railway level crossing on the road which runs in an easterly direction from Adversane Crossroads. They are now in a small industrial estate known as Muddles Yard. Thay tackle all manner of general engineering work including cast iron welding, and they are well versed in cold straightening of bent axles. I have no connection with Blakers other than having used their services on and off for something like 60 years. No complaints about their prices either.

Probably the easy way to go, if the axle cannot be corrected, is T type:

The axle at the top is T type, not for sale, just for illustrative purposes. The others are P type.

To many mmm front axles have been knackered in more recent years by so called MG axle experts heating these right up and straightening. Only cold bend as heat otherwise creates a liability to road users.
