Those MMMers who race with the VSCC may well have competed in the Owner Driver Mechanic (ODM) races (some may know these under the title ‘Set 3’) at each of the VSCC race meetings over the last 15 years and at the Castle Combe classic. If so, they almost certainly benefitted from the extraordinary social facility which came with it - the ODM tent in the paddock where food, drink, shelter and a very friendly place to sit and chat were provided.
This facility was provided by the ‘founder patron’ of the ODM, John Guyatt and his partner Lesley Macalpine, who did most of the work and most of the cooking.
Sadly, Lesley passed away late last year and she is irreplaceable. 22 March was Lesley’s birthday. So, instead of a memorial service, John has decided to hold ‘a party for Lesley’. This will be an informal affair at Bicester Heritage at 1200 on that day. The ODM tent will be there and food will be available (although sadly not provided by Lesley) from the on-site caterer.
Anyone who has raced with the ODM or has simply benefitted from Lesley’s extraordinary hospitality over the years is welcome to come along. ‘Suitable’ cars would be especially welcome.
All that is required is to turn up. But PLEASE inform the coordinator Ian Standing by email, as soon as possible, if you would like to attend.
