Hello Ross. It is good to hear from you. I will write to you tomorrow at your personal email address. It is not that I don't want anyone else to read my message, but frequently when I reply on the MMM website, suddenly the screen goes blank and I lose everything that I have typed. Most frustrating.
I deal with it in the morning.
Very best wishes, Colin. |

Colin, I recommend you type your replies in Notepad, then copy and paste into the reply box once you have re-read and spell checked.

Possibly a J3 (maybe J3755). Gillie Tyrer was the proprietor of Litherland Motors in Liverpool & also has links to C0264 & RA0256. He died in June 2003 & was a life long member of the BRDC.

Thanks for the advice, Colin. I will try following that shortly.
Thanks also to Jeremy. I see from my copy of "The Hawke History" that the successes at Donington (the United Hospitals Race Meetings) are all attributed to C0264. Also mentions a Premier Award in the 1938 Experts trial, but I suspect that should relate to PA2116 (BNE983) which Gillie Tyrer also owned in 1938. I had a quick look at my copy of Cowbourne and that shows Tyrer as having won a Premier in the 1938 Lands End with BNE 983 which is described as a blown PB, rarher than a PA. I know the name Gillie Tyrer very well, but I cannot now remember why ! I thought that he might have raced at Le Mans in the Jaguar years. I have never come across his pre war trials exploits previously. Bill Boddy's little book on Donington mentions the United Hospitals successes and quotes the lap speeds (not sure whether those are fastest laps or an average over the entire race.) The speeds that Tyrer put up - 63.27 mph in one race and 60.70 mph in another are quite rapid in comparison with other M.G. times.
More digging to be done.
