Is there supposed to be a rubber strip covering the wood upon which the bonnet rests at the scuttle end ?..... or does it just rest on the wood ? |

On a PA, the bonnet rests on an offset 'T' shaped aluminum strip which is drilled and laced with woven fabric tape. No rubber until you get to the PB.

So I think the answer to Robin's question is Yes? Nick

Lew, I beg to differ; The PA had the aluminium bonnet rest section interwoven with tape through holes as at the front round the radator shell, but the PB used a wooden rest which supported a rubber rest section.

I think that's what I said. Rubber didn't come in until tyhe PB.

Hi Lew, our contributions 'crossed'; I was composing my reply agreeing with your second missive, hence the duplication.

Oh dear. So will the VSCC decree that my PA is modified as it has the rubber molding on the scuttle for the bonnet rest?![](images/icon_smile_sad.gif) ![](images/icon_smile_sad.gif)

My PA has the wood/rubber arrangement too. Somebody told me that this arrangement applied to late PA's as well as PB's. I'm not really that bothered as long as it keeps the bonnet in the right place. ![](images/icon_smile.gif) |

I agree. My previous post was "tongue in cheek". I'm more interested in driving my PA than in it's strict adherance to originality.

Interestingly, my PB Airline Coupe has the PA style bonnet rest. I believe that was standard on all P-type Airlines.

If late PAs had the wooden bonnet rests can anyone quote a chassis no or date at which the change took place?

The offset aluminium 'T' section ceased at PA Chassis No.2209. The wood support (which was in 4 pieces) with rubber rest, commenced at Chassis PA 2210 and all PBs. This was also the change point when the radiator front hinge support (the arch shaped bracket) was used for a second time as the rear hinge support also, being rebated slightly into the wood support. Yours, Barry Walker. |
