Colin Mclachlan has sent me a sketch of the floorboards for a P-type and I have added those to the "Document Downloads" section. Nick

Thanks for the credit, but wrongly attributed, I'm afraid! Some other Colin perhaps?

Thanks to Peter (Down & Scully) for the floorboard sketch. However, I am curious about the "Badge Bar Nut" shown. Could someone explain to me how that is used? I need to create a badge bar for PA1169 and this has my curiosity peaked.

Just to set the record straight, the sketches came from Peter Down and I am most grateful to him for them. However, like Lew, I too am curious about the part played by the badge bar nut! Perhaps Peter D can elucidate? Regards, Peter S |

Lew,
Here is a period advert for a badge bar that fits in front of the radiator.

and here is an original one which I am going to re-chrome and fit onto PB0533.

Interesting! I have that exact badge bar which is destined for the front of PB0560. However, since I need a badge bar for PA1169, I was curious about the nut shown in Peter Down's sketch and why it was there, and why it seems so long. I only wish they were still 12/6! Also interesting about CMI, as that was the dealer who originally sold my J2 in 1932.

Lew,
The CMI was the Central Motor Institute of Finchley, North London, the Principal of which was A C Cookson. Mr Cookson was a prominent Member of the M.G. Car Club in the 30s and at one stage he served on the General Comittee of the Club in an organisational capacity. His name lives on in one of the Sections used in the Chilterns Trials of the period, which although no longer in use for its correct purpose is still known as "Cookson's Stopper".

And the C.M.I. also presented the Banana Trophy as the premier award for the winner of the MGCC Chiltern Trial. I believe the trophy is now cared for by the SE Centre. Here is the link to a photograph on one of the Retro Pages:

Good Morning. I wish to make this very badge bar. Could someone please tell me the diameter of the bar? I intend to use hydraulic tubing fabricating using stainless or with mild steel being chromed. Better yet could a sketch be made of the original? Many thanks, Ian in Canada. It's not cold...yet! |
