Can anyone help? I have just bought a K block, its stamped 596A on the top, with 69K2 below. The A and the K are directly in line, with the A on the top. Is there any cross reference to which chassis this was originally fitted to, or can anyone tell me what model the block was originally fitted to? Only a few K2's were built, so is it quite rare?
Thanks,
Paul.

My listing shows 596AKD as currently belonging to K0395, a K1. But the 69 seems to indicate a K3. ???

Thanks Lew, but the number on my block has no letter D, its just as I explained above. I have also looked in various books, and this number did appear to be near the start of the K3 run. But I'm no expert, or have any access to any build records.

596 AKD is the original engine number for K1 K 0395. I don't have another record for an engine block with this number on it but there are a couple of gaps. K2 blocks started quite a lot lower down the range but they were quite random. There's nothing conclusive I'm afraid, in the register records.

I note from the 2011 printed Register that K0395 is listed with the engine number 596AKD. I wonder if the car still has the original block fitted?

that would have been my next question, is K0395 still around, and where is it? Thanks to everyone for the digging so far!

Paul.

Paul,

Are you sure the number is 596A and not 586A because 586A was the original engine number for K2009.

Peter,

If it is 587A 69KD it is the original engine from K2017.

"But the 69 seems to indicate a K3"

Looks to me like an opportunity to build another "original" K3.
