I have just been given a nice old set of bsf taps and dies in a fitted wooden box by Fred Bates and co probably from the 20s or 30s strange thing to me is that included are a set of 9/32 taps and dies at 26tpi .I have never come across this size of thread in bsf unf or whit ,is it unusual or have I had a sheltered upbringing .Geoff

George / Geoff,

9/32 x 26tpi is a BSC (British Standard Cycle) thread.

9/32 x 26 tpi can be a Cycle thread or BSF, so it shows the importance of specifying the series as well as the numbers. They are not interchangeable - Cycle threads are 60 degrees but the BSF thread is Whitworth form which is 55 degrees.

If you want HSS then you have to add +200% to the price.
