No, the catches are at the same height each side with no evidence of welding up or re-drilling. I had wondered if the two side panels came from different cars, but they measure the same whatever. I'm very rapidly tending towards your cut & shut idea!
Maurice, mine are notched however, you're right; I have a broken end which broke off at that point. My car is quite early but I don't think chassis number is much help nearly 80 years later. This long after many cars will be bitsas to a greater or lesser extent.
