Forum readers may be interested in seeing another car alive again, L0532 hit the road last weekend after a 5 year rebuild and turned a wheel for the first time since the early 1950’s. Dad is chuffed with his latest pride and joy! Cheers, Tim

Congratulations, Tim and Graham.
The car looks splendid! Do you know anything about the history of the car? I am sure our esteemed Registrar would be interested to know it!

Thanks Dick & Robin, the L-type has a pleasing shape and the craftsman who did the restoration work are first class.
L0532 was sold new through Imperial Motor Mart to Mr E. Watson-Smythe of Aylesey Manor Park near Knutsford in Cheshire and was registered DG7854. It was returned to the factory when about 3 years old for a service where it was fitted with a Campbell steering wheel and bonnet strap. It was laid up over the war following which its then lady owner married a US serviceman and took it to California. In the late 40’s it was purchased by an enthusiastic 18 year old who competed in a number of trials with the San Diego Car Club before immigrating to Australia in the 1950s to be a sheep farmer in Tasmania and took the car with him. It was about this time that the car was partly dismantled and popped in a farm shed from where it was rescued about 8 years ago. Apart from new front wings it is basically complete and original, although it was originally painted green but as you can see Dad preferred the factory reds.
We would love to find out more if anyone knows any thing further.

Hi Tim
Congratulations to your Dad - nice to see an L1 tourer rebuilt in the original style. Makes a change from the many L1s that have been converted to 2 seaters!
That TA Airline in the background must be a recent import to Australia? It was recently advertised for sale in Switzerland and is I believe the only T type Airline. No dopubt our expert Lew Palmer will confirm.

Tim is too modest to mention that the L types first outing was at the MGCC of Victoria annual concours where it was awarded best MG outright.
