This J2 does not appear to be on the Register. http://www.prewarcar.com/index.php?option=com_caradvert&view=ad§ion_id=1&id=77226&Itemid=432
What an honest seller, he says it has 'forged plates' !

It used to be on the register. Do not expect a continious & clear history. Any would be purchaser would (as usual) be well advised to consult the registrar.......

Jeremy,

MG 1896 has been on the Register twice. Back in the 1970's it was listed as being on J3115 which had Register number 1524 and J2115 which had Register number 1669. Perhaps the car that is for sale could be one of these two cars.

Peter.

I think it's the one that claimed to be J2115. The body at one time was also claimed to be ex-Nigel M, with perhaps a P-Type engine. Early 80's, I think it still had a fairly std J2 body.

There was a time, which lasted perhaps 10-15 years, when due to MMMs shooting up in value, a few "establishments" chucked anything together to make sales as quickly as possible, the same names crop up time & time again, giving Bob Clare endless problems. Unfortunately, it's the down-stream owners than suffer.

Wyn - I guess you'd like a steering wheel like that for a Silverstone "Glow-car" entry?

The period photo in the advertisement is from 1 January 1934 on the original Phillip Island circuit in Victoria, Australia. The three cars shown in the photo were all imported new by Lanes Motors of Melbourne as rolling chassis and fitted with locally made Aspinall bodies. From left to right are L0546, J3766 and J4112 with the J2 currently residing in Queensland (which is a long way from Spain). The photo is from the Alan Bail collection and can be found online on the Prewar MG Register of Australia web page (http://prewar.mgcc.info/Archives/archives%203.htm).
I have asked the vendor to remove the photo.
Cheers,Tim
