Philip Flower's 4.25" silver plated trophy from the 1938 MGCC Chiltern Trial sold well on eBay this evening, and although in somewhat poor condition, it was too rich for me on this occasion.
I wonder if anyone on here won it?

Unlucky Ashley.
The horrible thing about eBay is that it always appears that you lose an item for the smallest possible margin, but in reality nobody really knows how much the winning bidder actually bid!

David, Yes and bidders use this system to out bid you at the last second so you cant respond. Oh well modern technology Hope its gone to a good home. Ashley |

Exactly Ashley - how downright underhanded of them! I too hope that it has gone to a good home, even better if it was someone on here.

I guess a positive is that we are able to see items coming available which we would not if ebay was not around, it all about money and these items are clearly valuable and better than cash in the bank, |

These types of trophies do seem to be in big demand! I wonder if the successful bidders are dealers?
Or is there a major, and wealthy, collector out there.

Indeed so Ashley - it's just annoying that there aren't any rivals out there to give 'rob dogs' eBay / PayPal a bit of competition, but I know what you're saying about being given an opportunity to bid, and that it's better to have money tied up in memorabilia than in the banks these days.
Tricky to say where it ended up George, although if you click on the winning bidder's eBay pseudonym e***d it appears that the individual in question has previously bid on items within the following categories... Mugs, Cups & Dishes / Badges & Mascots / Automobilia / Signs / Pocket Watches / etc... so could well be a dealer.
It had finished when I first posted about it at the top Ray - I simply omitted to state the final price and the number of bids!
£102 makes my MacDermid 1933 'Abingdon' 2nd Class Award an absolute steal!
