I would like to congratulate and thank Peter for organising another excellent Summer Gathering yesterday - this time he also managed the weather really well!

There was the usual very good turnout of cars including 6 K3s lined up in chassis sequence starting with Clint Smith's sympathetically restored K3008.

The number of K3s on display was in fact not 6 but 7 - I guess the last time we had this many in one place was the 75th anniversary celebration at MGCC Silverstone on 14th June 2008?

Fantastic indeed, what a superb day. Great cars, great company and a great atmosphere.

Many thanks to Peter and family for organising a wonderful family event.

I'll post my pictures later in the week.

Regards

Just to give you a flavour of the event - the entry list showed 49 Triple-M cars and 116 souls, so it was on a pretty large scale.

Peter and his family organised the event with military-like precision, with a carefully planned layout for the cars, an abundance of food and refreshments, all served at exactly the right time, quizes and puzzles, a light hearted gymkhana, and protection (factor 30) and awnings against the torrid sun.

But most important of all, everyone received a warm, generous and friendly reception, making this a most happy event.

And as George says, to see such a line-up of K3s, including some which had not been seen together since the 1930s was quite something. Gerhard Maier drove his (K3013)from the continent just to be there.

A great day and made all the better by Peter's promise to do the same again next year!

Another Summer Gathering picture of the 3 lovely C types -

JK 1932 is the ex Bob Hudson C0284 now owned by George and Marguerite Morgan but looked after in the UK by Greg Smith who drove the car.

LJ 4444 is C0272 owned by Oliver Richardson

PJ 6183 is C0294, the last built, which Alan Bentley has owned since 1964.

Lovely competition cars to compliment the 7 K3s in attendance!

Hi All,
what I should have added was that 7 K3s and 3 C-types is a good starting point for the grid for the Triple-M race next year!......not forgetting also those other Triple-Ms there just waiting to join in the fun. Best view at VSCC Cadwell Park was of 4 triple-M cars in a row charging round the track....M/J2/PA/C......

Barry, I entirely agree with you about how the Silverstone MMM Car Park should look and hopefully will do so next year Unfortunately, I am sure you recognise that many MMM Members have little or no wish to compete competitively with their cars, which involves shelling out £300 for each race plus the cost of all the fire-proof suits, helmets, gloves, shoes, fluid-proof underpants, jock-straps and all the other goodies which go with being a race licence holder. I hope against hope that the numbers will rise in future years, because for many of us, the sight of you and the other intrepid racers is a high-light of the summer months - and long may it continue, at Cadwell, Pembury, Mallory, Castle Combe and elsewhere even if we are being forced to give Sillystone a miss.

With best wishes,

Colin B. (Race Licence Holder in pre-1975 days !)

Sorry about that Ollie. Someone told me that the cost was £295 but with my slightly sub-standard hearing, it could have been £395. Mark, I could look for my old fire-proof J-S for yuu, but I suspect that it was condemned on "Health & Safety" grounds some years ago - or it might have scuttled away under its own power.
