A public thanks to Mike and Jamie at S&V for their continued support since I bought my J2 four years ago. Without their continued wish to help and advise, I would probably throw the towel in. Whilst I have their help, I will battle on. Now on to my third full engine rebuild with a total mileage covered of 50 miles since I bought the car.
If anyone wants to be warned off so called 'specialists' prior to their expensive engine rebuild I would be happy to discuss my experiences with you and hopefully save you a fortune and many sleepless nights.

Wyn, If only Brian Taylor in Hopton Heath, Shropshire could have done the job for you, you would have had none of this.

As for your reference to so-called 'specialists' I know where some of the bodies are buried!

Hi Wyn

I've had the pleasure of having two Triple M engines rebuilt. One by Sports and Vintage, a P type engine that went in to my J2 some years ago and another, a correct J2 engine, built by Oliver Richardson. Both come with utmost recommendation. In an effort to make my J2 correct, the P engine was replaced by the J engine and the car now drives better than I ever expected or imagined.

Needless to say both parties, and many others, are ably assisting in the restoration of my J3 and are contributing invaluable advise, practical help and recommendations on how to get the best from new and original parts.

The best people in line to work on our cars ares often in great demand, I'm aware of 2 year waiting times for engine builds and upholstery.

The best is worth the wait and their respective advice, in my experience, is superb.

Regards

Robin

I have deleted Richard's original comment at his request. Since some of the other comments now no longer make any sense, I deleted Sven's comment, Wyn's comment back to Richard and Richard's apology to Wyn.
I hope the thread now makes sense.

I think it is now obvious to most of us the thread is no longer wandering off topic.

Why is it there are so many turd's about who bu@@er up people's engines? Just had the same issue with a customers 6 cylinder Riley it was sussposed to have been rebuilt.…
Engine was put together without cleaning the block after new white metal, valves hitting pistons after fitted high lift cams and the crankshaft was never cleaned and no oil to main bearings!
A lot of people talk the talk............

From "down under" I support Wyn Lewis's comments. I have dealt extensively with Mike and Jamie and found them most helpful and obliging. I remember the night, some years ago, when staying at a relative's house in South London and it took Mike some time to find us! I have dealt with him both over the counter and by post and have nothing but praise for him and Jamie.

I also endorse the comments made in this posting.

As Ross has mentioned some "professional" work leaves a lot to be desired. I have only ever bought two "professionally rebuilt" cars and ended up stripping both right down and starting again, one of those is L2023! Old penny coins were used to take up the play in the rear trunnions of the other car, a PB, etc etc!!

Dear Wyn. You deserve a medal for enduring your sleepless nights.
It is the nightmare scenario.. One I'm all too aware of.
I applaud all those who drive on the manufacture of original spec parts.
It is disheartening when you find Specialists have sold you wrong parts for your car, when you have stood there together,
(smiling, face to face. Handing over your money)
For your faith to take hell of a dent, and focus to be thrown off course.
Wyn-I actually thought you had sorted your issues, behind the scenes, some time back?
The site doesn't like to cover disagreements.
I have complete faith in Mike at S&V.. Totally upfront, with prices and hands on knowledge.
I love George's "old pennies, about the trunnions " tale!

Wyn- Lets soon have some pictures of you driving your pretty, little car!
