Hello,

I'm after sizes and sources where I can purchase, for the following sections on a P-Type please.

1. The L shaped lower steel (?) fume section that bolts to the firewall around the gearbox.

2. The aluminium T shaped section that goes around the front of the body at the rear of the bonnet.

3. The Z shaped aluminium section that fits at the top of the firewall that takes a seal for the bonnet to sit on.

Thanks
Paul.

Paul.
Item 2 on your list. I have a pair of new pieces ex S & V, £40 the pair plus postage at cost.
Unfortunately I have no Email facility at the moment so contact via the forum only at present.

Item 3. If you cannot find any I can give you details of the fixture I made to produce my own.

I wonder if someone could pass an opinion about the firewall top aluminium section in the photo below.

Does the curvature of the ringed section look right for a P-Type?
and is the depth of the section that bolts to the firewall the right depth?

Thanks
Paul.

A bit off topic but Item 2 on Paul's list reminds me of the time I took delivery of this item from S&V for a mate who was restoring his J2 back home. I was not returning to RSA immediately but took a trip up to Scotland to visit a good friend and flew from London to Edinburgh with said part as hand luggage. It comes in a straight piece and I stored it neatly [safely??] between my window seat and the side of the cabin. Close to landing in Edinburgh we hit some serious turbulence and a young lad sat directly in front of me 'tossed his cookies' all over the wrapped parcel much to my amusement.
As it was mid December a few thrusts deep into a snow embankment in the car park had it looking pristine again and off I went......the car was a concours d'etat winner a few years later.

Paul,

In response to your question on the shape of these pieces, the answer is "no". Neither piece looks correct for a P-type. The upper corners are much too square. The P-type has much more rounded corners.

Paul.

I get 8mm as per your red lined photo. Hope this helps.

Profile as per your red lined photo. Sort of matches the profile of the hood. Hope this also helps.

Original firewall that has not been taken apart. Note the aluminum rivets holding -Z- shaped section.

Lew your pictures are of the bulk head and the sections in the top picture are fitted to the fire wall!

Yes, Ross, you are correct. However, the firewall has a similar curve which is much more radiused than what Paul's photo shows.

Maurice - yes please !

Is there a way to talk to you about this off the forum without email?

I'd also be interested to see the tool you made.

I take it this Z-section for the firewall is not something that can be bought from the usual outlets?

Russell,

I got your message about the lower fume section. Many thanks.

How about putting the photo on the forum, or we can wait until your email is working?

Cheers
Paul.
