Unfortunately this year's event will not now include its usual driving tests on the field of Messrs Foster and McNinch. This is due to our event clashing with that of another club.
Instead there will be an informal natter at the Lanes Hotel with the option of a short scenic drive to a local outstanding National Trust property at Montacute. If you wish to stay for lunch please book direct with the hotel
The organisers wish to express their apologies for any disappointment arising.

Barry,
No need this year then to hire in the cows for a month to help lubricate the "playing" surface.

This is a bit of a "bump":
I have had contact today from the SW Centre organisers. It seems that lots of you have been put off entering just because you won't be able to get your car covered in cow muck from Barrys' field.... Please be assured that the Dutch didn't take all the mud in Somerset back to Holland with them last year - there's plenty left, but with half this years entry coming over from the continent again, we are in real danger of loosing Somerset for good!

Seriously though; entries this year are shall we say "on the low side". Late entries will be accepted & all the details can be found here:

http://www.mgccsw.com/events/kimber-classic-trial/

Marshals are also as rare as un-raced/crashed J4s and the event needs a few more, so that Bruce and his band of (friendly) helpers don't all have heart attacks.

So, if you had even half thought of entering, now is the time to go for it & get the paperwork in, because there is a real possibility that events like this won't be around in the future if we don't enter them (kind of logical really). Then, what will "the next generation" do?

An unused MMM is not a car, it's just an ornament........

Jeremy,

I had every intention of entering and I had been hoping to travel over from Belfast and pick up the J2 the day before. I even had my hotel booking made! But I'm afraid that the engine is still awaiting re-assembly and there was no guarantee it could be ready in time so I had to scratch. And I'm afraid it's a bit far to come just to marshal.

Apologies, but maybe next year?

Hello chaps,
Entries have officially closed but sadly there are only 28 this year. This event, first run in 1937, is unique in the MGCC calendar. It requires an enormous amount of work before the day and a large number of marshals on the day. Frankly 28 cars is NOT a viable number. Such poor support is likely to result in this being the last one to be held. However I understand that a phone call to that nice Mr.Owst, details on Jeremy's last post, will guarantee you a place. Come on, don't be shy, it's enormous fun.
I look forward to seeing lots of you next weekend,
Alan

That would be an eternal shame!

Did my first one last year and even with all the rain mud an being stuck in a field I loved it!
Would be there this year again if a car would have been available.

Come on you Islanders you can't let the survival of this event depend on a few cloggies coming over each time!

We'll be along to spectate Alan, but unable to enter this year I am afraid.
We plan to stop in at the Lanes on Friday afternoon to say hello, and then come over again on Saturday for lunch and the infamous post-lunch watersports.
Where will the lunch stop be please (and time window for it)?
Thanks...

The usual pub Alex - I guess the first will be there from around 11:30 depending on the weather! See you there.

Where is that? (For those who haven't been before, or those with abysmal memories...)

In years gone by, the lunch stop was at The Sparkford Inn at Sparkford. However, for the past two or three years it has moved to The Camelot Inn at South Cadbury a few miles up the A303. (MR 183 632256)

I will see you all there - but regrettably sans PA (hole in the gearbox bell-housing).

Jones will no doubt do his best to delay things in his 1880 (oldest off first), but it's a 09:15 start from the Lanes Hotel, at 1 0r 2 minute intervals, with the first MMM off at No 3 (Alan G.). The route is:

Windmill Hill - 511113 OS194
Isles/Stoney Lane - 544122 OS194
Barrow Lane - 516053 OS194
Honeypitts - 668037 OS194
Short Cross - 595031 OS194
Oborne/Stoney Lane - 655186 OS183
Lunch Camelot Inn - 632256 OS183
Alham Splash/Gardners' Pond - 681401 OS183
Honeycliff - 659326 OS183
Pitcombe Hill (Cakes) OS183 672330
Hell Ladder Lane - 654314 OS183
Return to Lanes

Shorts & camera again Alex?
