Gary, I am told the gearbox is from a Y type and would welcome any information on how this might differ from that fitted to a TC or TD. I am planning on putting an XPAG engine and gearbox into my J2 until I can locate a correct engine. In this way at least I will be able to use the car rather than it sitting in the garage unused. Thanks John

Hi John,
Y type gearbox is the same as a TD gearbox. The TC 'box is an entirely different animal but it will fit onto a TD block. The remotes are totally different but both appear on eBay from time to time.
Regards,

Hi John, Why not install a later 1275 Sprite/Midget engine and gearbox? This puts the exhaust on the near ( left ) side and might be easier to clear the steering column? There was a J2, J3646, engine 2573AJ, which had a Sprite engine installed here in Canada after the J2 crank broke. Car currently in Europe I believe.
Not sure about UK, but Sprite/Midget engines are a lot less expensive to buy and restore than the XPAG TD/Y engines.
