During a much-delayed tidy up of my garage I came upon this item, which was with my PA when I acquired it in 1974.

A long shot, but could it be a fitting belonging to either furniture (boring) or an early 20c aircraft (interesting) manufactured by Sage of Peterborough? The company started as a cabinet maker and diversified into fighter aircraft in WW1. It struggled into the second half of the century, but is now long gone. An architecturally interesting water tower remains on the site and is now listed.

I think Blithe Spirit's reply is a good one!

Take a look at this old advert and compare the lettering 'SAGE' to that on the thumb-screw and they look very similar in style
