Hi,

Does anyone know where I may be able to obtain a Tool Box catch similar to the one described in the download section of this site. Whilst a 'proper' catch would be the best I would be very happy with a close look alike!

I have had a tool box made by my local joiner in accordance with a plan from Bryan Ditcham (thanks Bryan!) and the joiner, who has far more contacts than I, has had to admit defeat when trying to locate a catch - over to you all if you can help please.

Regards

Keith,
if you talk about the Tool Box Catch on the photo below, then there is a Company in England maybe still producing them.
At least they have it on their Website.
http://fhtomkins.com
or better go on their page with the Cheney Locks
http://fhtomkins.com/documents/locks%20&%20fittings%20brochure.pdf

A while ago I sent them several e-mails to inquire, but never got a answer.
Perhaps you have more luck - - - ?
Gerhard

Keith,
On my PB Airline, I was short some of the parts of the toolbox catches. However, I was able to take a standard "over-center" draw catch and modify it somewhat to look like the proper catch. It does require making the part that is screwed to the cover, but that along with the rest of the standard catch was enough to give a good imitation of the original. I have searched for years for the original style without success.
I'll post a photo of mine when I can get a little time.

Andrew,

Bryan D had such a tool box made for me - I believe by Keith Pettit.
If you ring Bryan on 0118 932 6346 he should be able to give you full details. Mine is very nice and extremely useful. Can't think why the 2 seater PAs were never fitted with them in the first place. The joiner was able to use my original catches - and he even transferred my University Motors badge from the old box lid.

Best wishes,

Colin B.

Bryan borrowed my box to get James Pettit to make copies of, I recall they made quite a number of them, I also remember Bryan getting quite excited at having found a source of original catches.

Thanks Ian. Just realised that my box was made by James Pettit - not his brother Keith !!!!

Hi, I have met and worked with Bryan on my box and whilst he supplied plans and a great deal of advice and support he was unable to help on the catches. However, I now have a couple of Cheney catches that my coach-builder is prepared to modify for me.
