An antique car/motorcycle friend of mine is going to London the week after next and asked me if I knew of anything car/motorcycle related to do there. I drew a blank but said I'd ask on the forum. Any advice ? I recall a speciality motor related bookstore in London but can't recall the name. Any ideas ? thanks Dan |

A little way west of London is Maidenhead where there is an exhibition celebrating the centenary of Maidenhead’s motoring industry with "a brand new exhibition featuring real vintage cars. Find out about GWK, Marendaz, Burney and Vanwall cars, all built on the Cordwallis Estate between 1914 and 1936."
Details at http://www.maidenheadheritage.org.uk/events/
To the South there's always Brooklands . . . there's a bus museum there too!
Within London itself there is the London Transport Museum at Covent Garden, which although largely rail-oriented also has a focus on the bus - see http://www.ltmuseum.co.uk/

I think the Science Museum also has some motoring exhibits?
The RAF Museum at Hendon is also very interesting and admission is free I believe.

I recall some lovely motoring exhibits at the Science Museum, but I am not sure if they are still there. A check online revealed Stephenson's Rocket, and other transport and steam related exhibits, so your day wouldn't be wasted. There used to be models of trains that small boys (i.e. me)could work by turning a handle but I think they're gone now, in favour of the dreaded computer graphics. While there you could always go to see the dinosaurs next door! And the building is a treat too..
On the aeroplane front, there is the DH Mosquito museum at Hertford, well worth a visit!
